  On May 25, 2022, the Legislation and Parliamentary Research Institute under the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized a round table at the “Development Strategy” Center together with the Legal Reform Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

   The project “Guidelines for gender and legal examination of regulations legal and their drafts” being developed by the Legislation and Parliamentary Research Institute was discussed at the meeting.

    Foziljon Otakhanov, Director of the Legislation and Parliamentary Research Institute, moderated the event in which members of the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Justice, NGOs, the academic community, members of the Institute’s Scientific Expert Council, national experts, independent researchers and the media attended.

 The event was opened by Dilorom Fayzieva, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis., and Rahima Nazarova, Deputy Director of the USAID Legal Reform Program.

    The round table was attended by Otabek Izzatillaev, Head of the Department of International Ratings and Indexes of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Gulnoza Sattarova, Head of the Legislation and Parliamentary Research Institute, Gulnora Ishankhanova, Independent Researcher of Tashkent State University of Law, Commissioner of the International Law Commission, Sodikov Xidirali, Head of the Department of Criminal, Administrative and Social Legislation of the Ministry of Justice, made a presentation on the purpose, main principles, and methodology of gender-legal examination of normative legal acts and their drafts, reforms in this area, existing problems in practice, and ways to overcome them.

   During the discussions, scientific and practical proposals and recommendations were developed to improve the methodological framework of gender and legal examination of normative and legal documents and their drafts.
